Lions fire offensive coordinator, o-line coaches

ALLEN PARK - According to sources, the Detroit Lions have fired the team's offensive coordinator and two offensive line coaches.

Jennifer Hammond reported that Coach Jim Caldwell has fired Joe Lombardi and both Jeremiah Washburn and Terry Heffernan. Lombardi was the offensive coordinator and Washburn was the offensive line coach. Heffernan was Washburn's assistant.

The Detroit Lions are 1-6 this season. The team ranks  25th in scoring at 19.9 points per game, while the Lions are last in rushing, averaging 68 yards ranked 32nd. The Lions rank 20th in overall offense (346.6 yards per game).

Quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter will take over as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Ron Prince will take over the new offensive line coaching duties.

Caldwell on if we'll see much difference in the offense under Cooter: "You can't change an offense in it's entirety in just two days time."

Prince remains the team's assistant head coach while running backs coach Curtis Modkins continues as the running backs coach.

The Lions lost 28-19 to Minnesota Vikings Sunday including seven sacks of quarterback Matthew Stafford.
