State Republican organizers celebrate Trump win, call for unity

More than 59 million Americans are claiming victory as the candidate they voted for is headed to the white house.

The Michigan campaign chair for Donald Trump is also celebrating a big win and has a message for those upset at the results.

"The middle class wants prosperity," said Lena Epstein. "We want to change. We want opportunity. We want safe borders. Everything that Mr. Trump offers, The American people want. Particularly the people of Michigan."

Co-chain Epstein says the campaign had high expectations for turning the state red.

"We want Michigan to be the manufacturing hub of the world that it once was, and it's going to be now that Mr. Trump is president," she said.

Epstein also heads up a group for women supporting Trump, standing by what she calls Trump's overall respect for women.

"When the 2005 comments came out, that was a very difficult time to be campaign co-chair," she said. "I spent a lot of time explaining that Mr. Trump's comments weren't always perfect and sometimes wrong."

The focus now shifts toward unity.

"Throughout this process it has not been easy," Epstein said. "But it has been such a telling and important example of staying close to your convictions. I think all of us as Americans need to stay close to our convictions. We need to hold those convictions close. And I think today, tomorrow, and then I can say it will be important for all of us to come together."

The Michigan campaign will also be considering possible ways to bring people together now, after the election created such a sharp divide both here, and across the country.
