Stolen SUV recovered for Marine serving out of state

An SUV belonging to a Marine is stolen and the family’s search for it goes viral on Facebook.

“We would love to find it in one piece,” said Katie Allen, girlfriend of Marine Matthew Canfield.

On Monday, we told you about U.S. Marine Matthew Canfield, how he's stationed out of state but coming home for Christmas, only to learn his prized possession, a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer SS was stolen when his sister drove it to Southfield for work Friday afternoon.

The family called police and launched a Facebook campaign to try to find the truck.

“We are all praying and we have hope and faith that is what will eventually happen is that we'll find it in one piece somewhere and it will just be ready for him when he comes home,” said Allen.

Well, believe it or not those prayers have been answered!

“Matt your car's recovered, it'll be fixed up and shiny and perfect when you get back,” said Meredith Langton, of Matthew-Hargreaves Chevrolet in Royal Oak.

The truck was towed here after being discovered in Detroit Monday night.

The Macomb County auto theft squad was executing a search warrant, when they found the car and arrested a 38-year-old man.

The ignition is damaged, the radio is gone but otherwise it's in pretty good shape.

“I'm so happy that it's recovered, it's here and it's in great hands,” said Langton. “We'll get it all cleaned up for him, Merry Christmas Matt!” “We’ll see you soon.”
