Suspect arrested after using counterfeit money to purchase car

- Bloomfield police have arrested a woman after she used counterfeit money during a Craigslist transaction.

Police say that the victim was selling a car on Craigslist for $3,800, and agreed to meet the suspect at the Costco parking lot off of Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Twp.

The suspect Destiny Thomas gave the victim money in a bank envelope to complete the purchase. The victim was able to take a picture of Thomas holding the vehicle title during the transaction, which was key, police say, in being able to locate the suspect quickly.

When the victim went to the bank to deposit the money, he was advised that the money was counterfeit.

The next day, Thomas was arrested by Troy Police Department while attempting to use counterfeit money once again at a business.

The victim's vehicle was recovered during the arrest and has been since returned.

Thomas has been charged with Uttering & Publishing Counterfeit Bills or Notes, and Larceny by False Pretences.
