Suspect critically injured after shooting at Detroit police

Police are searching for a second suspect after officers were shot at in the middle of the night outside of a Detroit home.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, Detroit police came out to investigate a Mini Cooper sitting in the 19700 block of Hull Street, which is near E State Fair Avenue and the Chrysler Service Drive. When officers approached the car, a man came out of a nearby house and started shooting at police.

Police returned gunfire, and struck the man several times. Detroit Police Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt says the man ran, but was found about a block away. We're told he was shot at least 6 times. The 45-year-old is in critical condition.

Police are still looking for a second suspect who was in the car at the time of the shooting.

No officers were hurt in the gunfire.

In a separate incident, Detroit police were also shot at just hours earlier during the day on Tuesday. Those officers were on routine patrol in a known drug area when someone pointed a gun at them and opened fire.

Officers weren't hurt. The gun has been recovered, but police are still looking for three people connected to that shooting.
