Suspect ID'd in beauty shop robbery, pistol-whipping

- Five men were caught on camera robbing a beauty supply store and pistol-whipping an employee. A month later, police say they're searching for a 24-year-old Detroit man for the crime.

John Evans is wanted for the crime that we first received video of back in August. He's considered the ring leader in an armed robbery at Kay Beauty Shop in Dearborn.

Men pistol whip beauty shop employees in Dearborn robbery

Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad explained that five men rushed inside and went for the register while attacking anyone in their way.

"It was quite brutal. A gentleman held a door open, orchestrated a robbery with several other gentlemen," Haddad said. "Some of the workers inside were pistol whipped."

When the video was first released in August, we spoke with an employee from the store

"They got thrown to the ground hit in the head. They told one that they were going to take her life, several times," an employee told us in August.

Employees who worked at Kay are no longer employed at Kay. The manager said they recently quit and said they did not feel safe.

Four of the five suspects covered their faces, but one did not. After our August story, the public responded and called in tips, helping police identify Evans.

"We want his family members and his friends to exercise the best judgment and encourage him to give himself up," Haddad said.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
