Detroit police say a 19-year-old man who was involved in an AMBER Alert Thursday morning has been taken into custody.

Michael Grayson was found on a DDOT bus at 7 Mile and Ryan roads. Police say he was taken into custody without incident around 2:30 p.m.

Police believe Grayson took 3-year-old Marvie Gardner from the boy's house overnight. The boy's mother, Latoya Spears, woke up and found the boy missing and a note that said, "I want my child and will call back with instructions."

Police say Spears invited some friends over Wednesday night, which included Gardner and his girlfriend. While they were hanging out, Gardner and his girlfriend began to argue prompting the girlfriend to leave with their child, which upset Gardner.

Spears calmed Gardner down and said he could stay the night, and when she woke up Gardner and her son were gone.

The boy was found safe around 2 p.m. at an abandoned home in Detroit in the 19500 block of Biltmore, which is a few miles away from where he was taken.

Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody says the boy is in good spirits and will be checked out medically as a precaution before being reunited with his mother.
