Suspect shot by police during high-speed chase on I-96 in Livonia

- A suspect was critically injured early Monday morning when he was shot by Michigan State Police after a chase on I-96. He was being pursued after police say he critically injured a woman in a domestic shooting.

We're told the incident started at a nearby FedEx facility around 3:30 a.m. Livonia Police tell us a husband shot his wife in an apparent domestic situation at the facility on Amrhein Road, which is near Newburgh Road.

Responding officers saw the suspect drive away from the facility, and saw the woman still in the car with him. Police then began to go after the suspect and were informed he also had a shotgun in the car.

A high-speed chase was going eastbound on I-96 when the suspect made a U-turn and began going west. Livonia Police say the chase ended around 3:40 a.m. in the area of Levan Road when a PIT maneuver was used. Lt. Michael Shaw with MSP says during the attempt to arrest the suspect, a trooper fired his weapon and struck the suspect.

The suspect and the female victim were both taken to the hospital and are both in critical condition. MSP says no troopers were hurt.

Westbound I-96 was closed at Levan for several hours and reopened shortly after 10 a.m.

Fed Ex would not reveal if either party works for the company but in a statement officials say: "First and foremost, our thoughts remain focused on those affected by this incident and we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement during their investigation."

Police say no one else was injured and the investigation is on going
