Suspected drunk driver's SUV crushed by train

It is a frightening image - a crushed car sitting on the rail road tracks in Ferndale. But what's worse is how it got there in the first place.

"Ferndale 911"

"Hi I am standing he waiting for police to show up just watched my car get hit by a train," the woman said.

Noel Delahaye is the voice you hear calling 911 for help.

Police say at 10:30 p.m.  Wednesday Delahaye turned right at Nine Mile and Pleasant Street. She turned north on to the train tracks thinking the rail road was actually the road. She drove for nearly half a mile until her Jeep got stuck.

Operator: "Were you in the vehicle?"

"No, my vehicle was over the train tracks I tried to get it to move," Delahaye said.

But clearly not in time.

Delahaye made it out - but the train pushed her Jeep for a quarter mile before coming to a stop.

Police say she was drunk and disoriented, telling dispatchers she was in Birmingham - but when she was actually in Ferndale.

Detectives soon discovered Delahaye's blood alcohol a .19 - more than twice the legal limit. Delehaye was distraught talking to dispatchers - clearly the reality of what happened settled in.
