Taylor man, 18, faces family of man he fatally stabbed in neck

(WJBK) - A grandfather was stabbed to death after trying to break up a fight between his sons and an 18-year-old.

 A jury found Stacy Rose, Jr. guilty of involuntary manslaughter but at the 18-year-old's sentencing, things did not go as planned.

"I hope the court will have mercy on me not just for my sake but my family's sake," Rose said in court. "All I ever wanted to do was make them proud."

Rose, of Taylor, pleaded his case before a judge after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter. The prosecution did the same on behalf of the victim, 49-year-old Robert Brisco.  

On July 30th, Rose was involved in a fight with the victim's teenage sons over a number of Adderall pills that had gone missing, possibly stolen.  The father, Robert Brisco, tried to break-up the fight and was stabbed in the throat by Rose as a result of intervening.

Brisco was killed at the Huron Estates mobile home park in Huron Township.

The family of the victim described the immeasurable loss of a husband, father and grandfather.

"Your cowardly way of bringing a weapon and stabbing our brother to death," said Sandra Brisco, the victim's sister. "You ran away, leaving Bobby lying on the street for five to six hours."

The victim's wife was so emotional during the sentencing, she asked the prosecutor to read a letter on her behalf.

"Robert's murder has taken everything from me, security, happiness, piece of mind," Brisco's wife wrote in a letter.

But the last word of the day came from the 18-year-old convicted in the stabbing.

"If I could trade places with him, I would because he did not deserve this," Rose said. "He was doing what any reasonable dad would have done in this situation and I really do wish I could bring him back for my own life."

In the end the judge said he had too much to consider and didn't want to rush into a decision setting another court date for Jan. 3, 2018.
