Teacher sick-outs close two more Detroit schools Friday

Two more Detroit schools are closed Friday morning due to a teacher sick-out.

The Detroit Public School district said it was forced to close East English Village Preparatory Academy and Mann Learning Community because of a high volume of teacher absences.

This is the third day this week that teacher protests have closed schools. Renaissance High School and Martin Luther King High School were closed Thursday, and Cass Tech, one of the largest schools in the district, was closed on Tuesday.

The teacher say they're taking a stand against overcrowded classrooms, cuts in health care and pay freezes.

A rally is planned for Sunday to vote on a possible strike. The meeting is Sunday, January 10 at 4 p.m. at the Gracious Savior Church on James Couzens in Detroit. He is calling all teachers, parents and students to attend.
