Teen faces murder charge after mother's death at Sterling Heights apartment: police

A 19-year-old man is facing a murder charge after his mother died earlier this week at an apartment in Sterling Heights.

Cardell Sain was arraigned on a first-degree murder charge Thursday. He is being held at the Macomb County Jail without bond.

Police said a 41-year-old woman died on Tuesday after a domestic situation at the Lakeside Terrace Apartments near Lakeside Mall. Sterling Heights Police confirmed to FOX 2 after the suspect's arraignment that he is the son of the victim.

Police have said the suspect called 911 after the situation. Police aren't going into detail about what he said during the call but they did know it was for "family trouble," they said. Chief Dale Dwojakowski said when they got to the scene, the suspect came outside and was taken into custody immediately.

Police haven't given details about how the woman died.

Sain is due in court again for a probable cause hearing on August 2.

This is the first homicide of 2018 that Sterling Heights police have investigated.
