Teen girl shot in her Detroit driveway

DETROIT - A teenager is recovering from a bullet wound after she was shot in her own Detroit driveway.

Neighbors on Teppert Street jumped out of their beds early Friday morning after hearing about eight gunshots right behind their homes.

Detroit police say a 16-year-old girl who was standing in the driveway just after midnight, was shot in the hip.

"All of a sudden pop pop, pop, I grabbed my grandbaby and hit the floor," said Kenneth Perry.

The girl is recovering in hospital, originally listed in temporary serious condition.

Police describe that shooter as a 20-year-old black man, about 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 5 inches tall and 130 pounds. Despite witness accounts, police believe only one shot was fired.

Neighbors say that six more rounds were fired off right in front of them.

"Boom boom, boom," said Anita Ayers. "They were trying to tear her up, like they were really trying to get them."

"I grabbed my grandbaby and hit the floor," said Kenneth Perry. "You could see the fire from the gun," Perry said. "So it must have been coming right through my yard."

"It could have gone into anybody's house," said Eve Tyson. "You never know when somebody is going to go crazy with a gun."
