A 14-year-old Washtenaw County student injured in a hit and run three months ago is finally out of the hospital.

As police continue to search for the driver responsible, the brave young girl continues her battle to recover.

"I'm happy I get to go home," said Samiah Bishop.

Samiah said goodbye to the staff as she left University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital on Thursday.  It's been her home since October after she was hit by one vehicle and then dragged by another as she was trick or treating on Halloween of last year.

The incident happened in Pittsfield Township at Ellsworth Road and Silverleaf Drive. The second vehicle that hit Samiah dragged her to the area of Michigan Avenue and I-94.

The first driver who hit Samiah stopped, but police continue to search for the second driver.

"I wish they would come forward," she said.

Samiah says she doesn't remember much about those terrifying moments.

"Only the headlights that's all," she said.

And although she says the past few months have been challenging, she remains positive.

"I love my scars - because they have a story to tell," she said. "I was hit by a car and I've been in a hospital a long time. I'm a miracle."

Samiah spent her final hours in the hospital receiving physical therapy and her mother received instructions about Samiah's wheel chair.

"I'm blessed that she is healing," said her mother Andrea Bishop. "She still has open wounds that need to heal and she still has a lot more surgeries to go. But I'm blessed that she's healing the way she did."

Although Samiah is being released from the hospital she has more progress to make and more support is needed.

"The GoFundMe is helping us to get a place but we need more to get transportation," Bishop said. "But we're using the money right now to get a place to stay."

As Samiah continues to recover she says she will be homeschooled - and she hopes her story will teach others a lesson about life.

"Be strong," she said. "Never give up."
