Teen injured after being hit, dragged while trick or treating in Pittsfield Township

PITTSFIELD TWP. (Mich) - A teenager is in critical condition after being hit by a car and dragged while trick-or-treating Saturday in Pittsfield Township.

Pittsfield Township Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of Ellsworth Road and Silverleaf Drive at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday for reports of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

Police determined that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the roadway, but the pedestrian could not be located.

She was crossing Ellsworth Road when she was struck by a Chevy Equinox that was being driven by a 33-year-old turning onto Silverleaf Drive. 

That driver stopped to call 911, but as that was happening the girl was struck by another vehicle. At that point, another driver being described as a man from Dundee pursued the vehicle that was dragging the girl under it for almost two miles. 

It was determined that the pedestrian had been dragged to the area of Michigan Avenue and I-94, before being dislodged in the roadway.

The man said he thought it may have been a Halloween prank or an animal under the front of the car. 

The pedestrian, a 14-year-old girl from Ypsilanti Township, was transported to Mott's Childrens Hospital in Ann Arbor in critical, but stable condition. 

Police are still looking for the vehicle that dragged her, a possible black hatchback that is maybe 10-15 years old with a Michigan plate.  It was determined that she was not using a crosswalk at the time.
