Teen killed by suspected drunk driver remembered at vigil

Loved ones of a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed by a drunken driver left court upset Monday.

Cody Soucie was given a $100,000, 10-percent bond with some saying that isn't enough for the man accused of killing Ryan Mannes.

The Roseville teen was playing Pokémon Go on Friday night when he was struck by Soucie's motorcycle. Investigators say Soucie's blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

Monday night a few hundred family and friends gathered to remember Ryan at Veteran's Memorial Park in Roseville.

"We've been friends for two years now, I miss him," said Kyle Mitchell.

Mitchell played on the same baseball team as Ryan and cannot help but speak of him in the present tense.

"Ryan was the best player on the team, always up to bat and ready to play," said Mitchell. "Good attitude."

"He was our leadoff hitter," said Bob Wieczorkowski, Ryan's baseball coach. "He forgot his shoes at home. I gave him my shoes, I wear an eight and he wears a five and he was running the bases. He even stole a base in my shoes. You couldn't ask for a better kid."

A good kid whose life ended entirely too soon.

The Mannes family is still understandably shaken up and they declined comment.

Soucie was arraigned Monday morning charged with drunk driving causing death. It's a harsh reality Ryan's friends and family are still coming to terms with.

Soucie is due back in court later this month.
