The Motor city is set to usher in 2018 in style, but this year "the drop" won't be happening at Campus Martius as in years past.

Organizers say they have outgrown that location and logistically it makes more sense to hold it in Beacon Park near Grand River and Cass.

"It lends a better view to the attendees so they can be surrounding the drop. And get a view of the whole tower," Matt Flynn said.

This year to offer a lot more,

"Moving lights, a second pavilion, a heated structure to go in and hang out and party all night," Flynn said.

The weather will definitely be a factor in this one, but with two heated tents you have options. The catch, each tent holds about 1000 people and roughly 30 thousand are expected to attend.

The other catch, the outdoor festivities are free to one and all, however to get inside the heated tents you'll need a ticket,

Organizers assure there will be plenty of entertainment to keep you moving from 4pm till after midnight.

"We have Martha Reeves singing Dancing in the streets at midnight and continue singing light up Detroit just a lot of diverse talent," he said.
