Thief claiming to be God steals school bus, hits two cars in Pontiac - police say

Police say they have a man in custody who claimed to be God after he stole a school bus and crashed into at least two different cars.

Officers were called Orchard Lake Road and Berwick in Pontiac on Saturday morning to an accident involving a school bus. Witnesses said a bus crashed into two cars and the driver was walking away from the scene.

An officer from the Sylvan Lake Police Department arrived and was directed to the man by witnesses. The driver appeared to be trying to evade the officer but was eventually taken into custody.

That's when the officer said he identified himself as God.

Oakland County Deputies arrived on scene and said the school bus was significantly damaged and two other cars had other minor damage. According to witnesses, the bus was headed west on Orchard Lake when it crossed the center line and hit a car going east, setting off a chain reaction and damaging other cars.

One driver was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont for treatment and is expected to recover. All other drivers declined medical attention.

Deputies said the bus was stolen from the Webber Academy in Pontiac just off Woodward.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Pontiac, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and other misdmeanor.
