Thieves hit Detroit street in middle of night stealing bikes and lawn supplies

Just about everyone in this southwest Detroit neighborhood has seen 8-year-old Ricky riding his bike up and down the streets.

"First thing he does, gets up shoots out the door and gets his bike," says Ricky's father, Ricardo Mungia.

But there's no biking this Labor Day for Ricky. His bike was stolen in the middle of the night from the side of their house in the 3400 block of Cicotte Street, which is near Livernois Avenue and John Kronk Street.

"I happened to wake up at 4 and came out to look and the bikes were gone," says Mungia. Two bikes were stolen; Ricky kept an extra for his friends who don't have a bike at home.

"They just walked up to the porch. I had them on the side. So, the cameras can watch them. And sure enough, they went in and got them," Mungia says.

But it wasn't just the two bikes that were stolen from Ricky -- and it wasn't just the Mungia house that was hit. A neighbor says a bike was stolen from his house that same night. A weedeater was also stolen.

Mungia has filed a police report, but all he really wants is for his son to end summer on a good note.

"I just want the bikes back and I won't press charges. But if I don't get the bikes back, then I have to," Mungia says.

If you recognize the guys in the security footage, which you can see in the video report above, contact Detroit police.
