Thousands of dollars worth of wigs stolen from Detroit store

Police are searching for a burglar after someone made off with thousands of dollars worth of hair.

Officials say 40 wigs were stolen from the Giovanni Hair Company on 6 Mile just east of Outer Drive.

"Each wig can easily range from anywhere to $1,000 to even $2,000 jst depending on the wig," said owner Jada Cannady.

She says the salon was first broken into in mid-August, then again twice last week. The last couple of burglaries were caught on camera.

Jada says the hair heister used a crow bar to pry open the front door. In addition to swiping the wigs, he also stole the cash register, which had about $400 in it but the register itself will likely cost $6,000 because it was leased equipment.

The owner believes the guy responsible may have visited the salon before with a friend and cased the place.

Jada says they got an anonymous tip about someone selling wigs so she passed it onto police.

Anyone with information should call Detroit police.
