Three people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident at Five Mile and Levan, according to police.

The six car accident caused the intersection to be shut down shortly before 5 p.m. Multiple drivers were transported to area hospitals.

Livonia police said that an 80-year-old man from Livonia crossed the center line of Five Mile near Levan and hit a Ford Focus head on. Inside the focus were two women, 67 and 88. All three were killed.

It is believed the elderly man was driving a Lincoln sedan.

The intersection was closed for hours as police investigated and clean-up crews worked the scene. It was reopened sometime after 9 p.m.
