Three more DPS principals charged in bribery, kickback scheme

Thursday brought another round of former Detroit Public School principals accused of bribery and taking part in the kickback scheme that stole millions.

Ronnie Simms and Tia'von Patton are two of the former educators in federal court on Thursday to be arraigned. They were joined by Willye Pearsall, a former principal at Thurgood.

The hearings followed the same routine of three other defendants who were in court Wednesday.

They all got a $10,000 unsecured bond and some of the stipulations include giving up their passports.

Attorney Todd Perkins who is representing  is representing Pearsall, declined comment.

"It's a lot of lawyers, a lot of working parts, so I would refrain from comment at this time," he said.

But Perkins did answer a question regarding more talks about plea deals for the defendants. That topic came up in both hearings the last two days.

"I would be assuming it would be one for all and all for one," Perkins said. "But I don't know how that's going to work through the system at this point in time."

The attorneys for Ronnie Simms and Tia'von Patton declined comment. More of the principals in this case are scheduled to be arraigned next week.
