Tree on Detroit's removal list brought down on man's car from storm

- A tree cracks under pressure from the overnight storm landing right on top of a car.

The homeowners say that tree should have been cut down by the city long before the storm hit.

A woman wakes up Tuesday to find her husband's Chrysler Sebring buried beneath a huge tree in front of their home on Westwood in Detroit's Rosedale Park.

"She called and said you are not going to believe this - the tree is on your car," said Patrick Lacy.

It was about 3 a.m. Tuesday. Patrick Lacy's wife picked him up from work with the news that the storm had done some damage - but all was not lost.

"I came home, I looked and I was lucky that I still had a car," he said.  "It wasn't smashed. It has a hole in the trunk, but its fine."

Patrick says the city had already tagged his dying tree for a replacement, like they have many of the trees in this neighborhood. He just wishes the city had cut it down before the storm brought it down, on top of his car.

"The city should have cut it down a long time ago," Lacy said.

Patrick says the city did give him a claim form to fill out - he's hoping he'll be reimbursed.

"I'm pretty sure they will - my wife will be on them," he said.
