Tunnel to Towers run honors first responders, Ron Savage

More than 400 first responders lost their lives on Septmber 11, 2001 trying to save their fellow Americans. 16 years later, people in Berkley and in 49 other cities across the country participated in 'Tunnel to Towers' 5k  run/walks.

Images of the fallen 9/11 heros lined the route in tribute to fallen heroes. Money was also raised to build specially equipped homes for disabled veterans.

During the opening ceremony of Saturday's event, Berkley Mayor Phil O'Dwyer paid tribute to beloved Fox 2 anchor and volunteer firefighter Ron Ravage, who died from a heart attack  after a routine training exercise in February.

"It just makes me cry when i come to these events, but I'm honored that everyone remembers him. I don't want anyone to ever forget him," said Mitzi Savage, Ron's wife. 

Savage emceed the event last year. 

Many firefighters ran the 5k in full gear.
