Two sexual incidents being investigated by Ann Arbor police

Two separate, disgusting incidents of a sexual nature are being investigated by Ann Arbor police.

Women and students are feeling uneasy Wednesday after hearing of two incidents in just days near University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus.

The first, police say, happened Nov. 9 when two women, jogging along Liberty Street at 6:30 a.m. said a random man mumbled "Hey ladies."

The man then, jumping out and grabbing both women in their genital area.

"They looked back and ran away at a hurried pace," said Det. Lt. Matt Lige. "And it looked like for a few seconds that he was actually following them."

The women, called police and described the man as a 26-year-old white or light-skinned Hispanic man, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds, wearing a dark hoodie with a zipper.

Police say they're glad the women chose to run together, and are already getting help from the community.

"We are getting calls from the public that think they have seen someone that it could be," Lige said. "We are investigating those leads to the fullest extent possible."

While police search for that man, they say just a few blocks away, a 14-year-old teen was traumatized after answering a knock at his door.

But opening the door of his home on west Washington Street on Nov. 12, police say the boy saw a man standing on the porch a man he'd never seen before, showing his genitals.

"The suspect tried to engage the boy in conversation," Lige said. "The 14-year-old realizes the man is standing there with his genitals exposed."

Scared, the boy slammed the door and ran to find his parents.

"This same man is looking in the windows trying to see where the boy went potentially," Lige said.

The boy can only describe the stranger as a black man in his 20s wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans. Police canvassed the area with no luck so far. That home is just steps away from Slauson middle school.

"It is very scary, that there is some type of sexual deviation that compelled this man fetish to expose yourself to a child," Lige said.

Police say the two incidents don't appear to be related and they haven't had any similar reports yet.

"Be vigilant of your surroundings," Lige said. "If you see something unusual, or it makes you uncomfortable, don't hesitate to call 911 if you think it's appropriate."
