A rescue effort was underway in Pontiac for two workers trapped inside a water tower.

A technical error left the two inside at the tower located at Montcalm and Edison on Friday.

Both workers have been brought out on stretchers. The second worker was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.

The second worker was unconscious.

The workers were cleaning and painting the inside of the tower and the apparatus they were using broke, causing them to fall. Both sustained serious head injuries.

A Firefighter High Angle Rescue Team assisted at the scene along with more than half a dozen fire departments assisting the rescue.

It took first responders 90 minutes for the rescue due to the size constraints of access ladder inside.
