Rising rap stars killed in shooting on I-94

Two up-and-coming rappers have been identified as the victims of an early-morning shooting in Detroit on Sunday.

Ramell Campbell and Domonique Brown were killed in a shooting on Interstate 94. The 27-year-olds had been friends since high school, and were on their way home from a club when the shooting happened.

Police were first called to the scene around 2:45 a.m. for a report of a vehicle on the shoulder in the area of eastbound I-94 and Livernois.

Once on scene, police determined that both Campbell and Brown were deceased, having been killed by gunfire. We're told the car they were in had been shot at multiple times.

Rising rap stars were killed in 'ongoing feud,' police say

Michigan State Police and Detroit police secured the scene and closed the freeway, which remain closed for nearly nine hours Sunday morning.

Brown leaves behind two children. Her mother is trying to cope with the death of her daughter on the same day as her son's birthday.

"Words can't explain it. How do I celebrate a birthday and a death?" Bertha Matthews wants to know. "I can't do both. I don't even know where to begin."

Dozens of shell casings were taken to the scene.

Police have determined that multiple shots were fired over a stretch of I-94, leading to where the victim's vehicle came to rest near Livernois.

MSP continues to investigate and further info will be released as it is appropriate.

"My understanding, she was leaving a club and her car got sprayed with bullets. She was in the car with one of her high school friends, who's also a rapper. My daughter was trying to become a rapper within the last month," Matthews says.

Campbell went by the stage name 47 Mell, and Domonique went by Domo Brown. Both were just featured on Hot 107.5 on Friday. Host Kenny Valentino says Campbell would take whatever was going on in his life or current events and channel that into his raps, and that Domo was a "real female" who rapped about real things.
