Vigil for husband and father murdered on camera

DETROIT, Mich. - Family and friends held hands in prayer at the corner where 30-year-old Devin Wallace was gunned down nearly one week ago.

Some of the t-shirts read "Beautiful memories. My favorite cousin." Wallace is from Farmington Hills. He was a married father of two young children.

"Block by block. Person by person. Lord we pray for our babies," prayed Maurice L. Hardwick, Pastor.

Wallace was behind the wheel of his white Mercedes while talking to another man outside the car. You see the black Dodge Charger pull up alongside. The passenger steps out of the Charger and shoots Wallace multiple times in the head and torso. Police interviewed the man who was talking to Wallace but there have been no arrests. Police will only say the shooting was an obvious hit - it was not random - and Wallace was the intended target. But they will not elaborate or explain a reason for the shooting.

"People should understand that whatever personal vendettas - people need to learn how to go in peace and learn how to handle that in a different way," said Capt. Kyra Hope of the Detroit Police Department.

"It's sad that this had to happen, because it's senseless. When things are like this in the city, they really need to stop. It's too much going on and it's outrageous," said Melanee Landrum, the victim's cousin.

The vigil was held Thursday night at the murder scene on Franklin St. at Joseph Campau, just south of Jefferson in downtown Detroit.

The vigil concluded with the launch of white balloons. Six days after the murder Detroit Police say they’re still hopeful they'll make an arrest. They're still asking for tips. Call Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
