The family and friends of Drevon Card gathered at Fitzgerald High School on Saturday night to hold a vigil in his honor.

"Drevon's spirit will live on with us and if we continue to pray and be supportive, I think we all can get through it," his mother said.

Card, 14, broke his neck jumping into a ball pit at Total Sports in Warren while visiting the trampoline park with dozens of students. His friends and family said he was a swimmer, a diver and an all-around good kid gone far too soon.

"He brought a fun, loveable, joyous energy that just kind of glowed above everybody else," said Caleb Yokel, swim team captain. "He was not only motivation for himself but he was also great motivation for the  rest of the team to see that he was excelling and only just a freshman, and he came in top of the division. I know it's going to be hard but we're going to win the division for him."

"I think Dre's looking down on all of us right now, smiling because all his friends, family, we love him," said Terry Phillips Sr. He's going to be missed."
