A vigil for Ann Gorup was held Friday.

A woman was found murdered and mutilated in her Redford Township apartment Monday. On Friday friends and family of Ann Gorup was being remembered with a vigil.

Gorup, 46, was murdered at home across the street from the vigil at the Lola Manor Apartments on Five Mile west of Telegraph in Redford.

"I thought it was crazy," said Jamsie Morgan.

Morgan lives at Lola Manor and says she is sick to her stomach with the news that the man Gorup had been dating, 44-year-old Dexter Williams has been charged with the murder and mutilating her dead body.

"They said that she was through with him," said Morgan. "But that's no reason to kill anybody."

Later in the vigil, Gorup's brother spoke about his beloved sister.

"She had the most kind, caring, giving nature of anyone I have ever encountered in my 55 years," Thomas Gorup said. "I consider myself privileged to have been her older brother."

Thomas Gorup said his sister had been dating her accused killer. But when Ann told Dexter Williams he was no longer allowed in her life, Thomas said that Williams refused to accept it and snapped.

"Please do not remain in that relationship," he said. "Find a way out. Leave. I feel if a man gets mad enough that he wants to hurt a woman, the relationship needs to be over."

Earlier this week, Williams was formally charged with her murder and mutilation. If convicted he'll spend the rest of his life in prison.
