Volunteers hit $82K goal before shaving a single head for childhood cancer research

(WJBK) - Many gathered at The Plymouth Roc to "brave the shave" to help end childhood cancer.

More than 70 people participated in Brave the Shave for St. Baldrick's, an event in which people shave their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research.

"We set a goal this year of $82,000, which would mean that over the last 6 years, we've raised a quarter of a million dollars -- really high goal, really tough to hit considering we started raising $6,000 our first year," said Robb Drzewicki, St. Baldrick's lead organizer. "We hit $82,000 before noon today, before we shaved a single head."

Every three minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. Donations help in the development of childhood cancer treatments. The event raises a lot of money and brings people together.

The group's next major fundraiser is in September.
