Walsh's Auto Service burns down in Redford Twp.

A portion of 7 Mile Road was closed in Redford Township while crews worked to extinguish a fire at an auto shop.

The fire was at Walsh's Auto Service on 7 Mile Road, just east of Beech Daly Road.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told police they heard at least one explosion around the time the fire began.

Everyone was able to get out of the building and no injuries have been reported.

Walsh's Auto Service has been in the community for 70 years.

The building is a total loss.

Authorities say the fire was caused when a suburban brought in for service caught fire while draining the tank.

Shop owner Tom Walsh said he attempted to extinguish the flames but the extinguisher ran out, so he escaped.

He says he has insurance and will seen how much it covers.
