Chief Craig: 32 shootings over Labor Day weekend

- Detroit Police Chief James Craig gathered the media Tuesday morning to talk about the recent violence in the city over Labor Day weekend.

Chief Craig said at the conference that 32 shootings happened over the weekend, four of which were fatal. Moreso, two triple shootings happened and four double shootings took place.

In comparison to last year, though, the chief says the numbers are still lower. In fact, he says carjackings are down 34 percent.

Chief Craig also touched on a study that the department is currently doing that compares Detroit's bond rates to other cities', like Los Angeles, for ex-felons carrying guns. In short, he says there's no incentive for our ex-felons to not carry guns when their bond could be as low as $500, when in a city like Los Angeles bonds for that offense start at $30,000.

FOX 2's Erika Erickson was there and will break down the stats for us tonight on FOX 2 News beginning at 5 p.m.
