Waterford teen, 17, on life support after being shot in head

A Waterford Township teenager is hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot in the head during target practice Sunday afternoon.

Police in White Lake Township say the 17-year-old was dropped off at Huron Valley Hospital on Sunday by his two friends, who left the hospital after dropping him off. The victim was unconscious and put a wheelchair outside the hospital. He was wheeled in by a security officer.

The 17-year-old was transferred to McLaren Hospital - Oakland and later Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. He was later identified through fingerprints.

The friends, 16 and 18, were later tracked down and police learned the three were shooting in the 6200 block of Grass Lake Road in White Lake Township when the 17-year-old was hit in the head by a bullet.

According to police, the teenager was on life support Monday morning at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

Police said the shooting appears to be accidental and both suspects are currently in custody.

Waterford Police said the 17-year-old walked away from Oakland County Children's Village on the County Government Complex on Saturday.
