Wendy's customer escapes carjack attempt at drive thru in Ferndale

- A couple in Ferndale narrowly escaped from an attempted carjacking attempt at the Wendy's drive thru.

An armed man approached a couple while they were waiting inside their car at the location at 22555 Woodward Avenue, at about 11 p.m. Monday.

The suspect held a silver handgun and approached the driver's window, while a second man walked up to the passenger side of the car. According to police, the armed suspect said "Don't move, get out of the car" and pointed his gun.

Police say the driver accelerated and believes she struck the suspect holding the gun, knocking him and his weapon to the ground. Both victims were seen "casually" walking away.

Neither victim had a cell phone with them, so they rushed home and called 911. Officers responded to the restaurant, but the suspects had the left the scene by then.

The first suspect is described as an African-American man, about 25 to 35 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, with a mustache and goatee.  He was wearing a red baseball hat, white T-shirt, gym shorts, tennis shoes, and designer type rose tinted glasses. He was armed with a chrome semi-automatic handgun.

The second man was also African American, about 18 to 25 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with thin build, wearing a white T-shirt and gym shorts.

A surveillance photo from the Wendy's drive thru was released by police showing the suspect armed with the gun.
