It's not just what you will see, but what you won't see at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that has many people turning their heads.

Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Maserati, Rolls Royce, Tesla, and BMW Mini won't be inside of Cobo Hall this year.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the NAIAS, but instead, these brands want to hyper-focus on their target audience... a higher end consumer.

Auto analyst John McElroy also said that some of these luxury car lines don't have anything new to show, or they don't want to spend the money because some are much smaller car lines.

But there is one special car that's making a comeback: Ashton Martin. It's coming back for the first time since 2009.

It will also be a special day for the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2016 Volvo XC90 SUV, selected as the Detroit Free Press Car & Truck of the Year.

The Detroit Free Press Car/Truck of the Year is the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2016 Volvo XC90 SUV.  It will be an intense show for the North American Car of the Year.

And the luxury car companies that will be foregoing Cobo, will be not be leaving Detroit all together. Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Maserati, and many other luxury makers will be at the MGM on January 9 for a luxury car show that they will be doing on their own, called The Gallery.
