SaKendra Mitchell

A 19-year old woman is gunned down at a block party and three years later her family is still searching for answers.

"That was the worst day of my life - even until today it's just really hard," said Bianca Eldridge, the victim's aunt.

SaKendra Mitchell was killed in a shooting at a block party at LaSalle and Puritan on August 2, 2013.

"Some guys started arguing over glasses, gunfire broke out and she's the one who got hit," said Eldridge.

Her aunt says it was a crime that ended a promising life of a young woman who was about to start college and a new job.

Three years later no one has been arrested for the crime. Mitchell's family says someone knows something.

"You have to stand up because, think of all the people who are affected by this," said Eldridge. "No one has spoken up. I know someone has to know something. And if (you do) please think what if that was your family member?"

As the family waits for answers and justice they say they will mark this somber anniversary with a family gathering to share precious memories.

"The last thing that she said to me and my daughter, was that she loves us and I would not imagine that would be the last time I would see my niece," she said. "This is torture."

Detroit police say this is an open case and they are still investigating so if you have any information about what happened on this block back on August 2nd of 2013 contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or Detroit Police at (313) 596-5200.
