Winter weather causes slick condition on roads

Some light snow and ice are causing problems for drivers in metro Detroit.

Several bands of lake-effect snow from Lake Michigan are the cause of the taste of winter, says FOX 2's Lori Pinson. The stronger bands are headed toward Downriver and the Washtenaw, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

Light snow will tail off early Saturday morning, while a warm up is headed later in the week closer to Christmas.

Meanwhile, the slick roads caused big headaches for drivers across the region.

It is a slow go, if you're riding along on I-96 westbound at D-19 the Howell Pinckney exit.  It's ice-orama. FOX 2 found a steady glaze of ice starting in Novi and going west.

Drivers on I-96 say the ice stretched all the way to Lansing.

Long commute times were to be expected say drivers, who described the freeway at times like a parking lot.

If you are headed anywhere, give yourself extra time. Although there have been no reports of serious accidents, there have been reports of numerous spin-outs.

FOX 2's Ron Savage has more.
