Woman dies after assault behind old Cooley High School

Police and family are searching for answers after a woman was found brutally beaten and left to die at an old high school on Detroit's west side.

Officials say 24-year-old Jodi Taylor was found fatally assaulted around 1:30 p.m. May 15 behind the old Cooley High School, 15055 Hubbell in Detroit. She was better known as "Diamond."

She was left to bleed to death after the assault but a friend rushed her to the hospital. However, she succumbed to the injuries and died.

Police released a sketch of the suspect seen fleeing the scene.

Some would say Diamond led a questionable life. Her mother says she owned the knife she was attacked with and that she was involved with drugs and prostitution.

Her mother believes Diamond knew the person who assaulted her and she was found partially clothed. She was found without any money.

"We believe she was sexually assaulted," she said.
