A Detroit man makes a horrifying discovery while walking to work Tuesday morning in southwest Detroit. A woman’s body was on the edge of a field on John Kronk near Martin.

“There’s no obvious bullet hole wound, anything like that,” said Cmdr. Whitney Walton of the Detroit Police Dept.

Yet police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Special Operations officers who patrol the area say the victim is a 29-year-old prostitute who works a nearby stretch of Michigan Avenue.

“I would suspect she was probably dumped here. The homicide detectives will ultimately figure out what happened here,” said Cmdr. Walton.

A woman who did not want to be identified told Fox 2 she was driving at around 5 a.m. when she saw a white van parked with two people inside. It was in the area where the body was found.

“This is a desolate area. Anybody who was perhaps going to work, cutting through this area, if they saw anything - a person, a vehicle, anything, any small thing can help,” said Cmdr. Walton.

But was the woman killed?

“This is a tough one to make a gut call,” said Cmdr. Walton.  “Sometimes on these, you might think it’s an overdose and perhaps the body getting dumped. We never necessarily know until the medical examiner and everybody gets a really good look.”
