Woman, kids left in cold by landlord

Vanessa Jackson lives in a rental home in Detroit with her 5 young children and grandchildren. Back in May, Jackson says her furnace caught fire. After going through several hurdles with the landlord, the furnace was replaced, and she thought her problems were over. However when she went to turn it on a few weeks back, she realized it still would not turn on.

"The gentleman said they were gonna come out and fix the furnace. No one ever came out."

She made even more calls to the landlord, only to find ownership of the house had changed to an address in Taiwan. Jackson is taking the issue to court, but with the weather getting colder, she needs heat now.

"I need someone please, just to come. It might be something small, might be something big. I don't know, I just want some heat for my babies," Jackson says.

Right now, Jackson and her family have been using pillows and mattresses to barricade the windows, and on nights like tonight, the children stay with friends.

Jackson says "If someone could just please help me, believe me I will pay it forward."
