Woman killed in hit and run in Sterling Heights; police look for drivers

- A woman outside her truck on 18 Mile Road in Sterling Heights was hit by two or possibly three separate vehicles.
Only one of the drivers stopped, the victim, Susan Felchek-Kozicki later died leaving her family devastated.

Susan was close to home driving on 18 Mile Road.  A cover flew off the bed of the pickup truck she was in. It went into the road.

She went to get it. A car coming west bound hit her. The driver got out to help her when police say two other vehicles may have then rolled over her and kept going.

Kozicki's son relied so much on his mom and he just lost his dad about seven months ago. Now she's gone.

"As a 17-year-old I can't imagine having to carry the burden and knowing that you were there and thinking for the rest of his life what could I have done to avoid this tragedy," said a relative.  "How do you live with the face that you've devastated a family and shattered a boy's life. A boy who really needed his mother."

Her son Kyle was in the truck with her.  She told him to stay in the truck while she pulled over to get the cover that had flown off and that's when it happened.

All police know about the cars that didn’t stop is that they were possibly a gray or silver Honda or Toyota minivan - and possibly a third vehicle.

At first doctors thought she would pull through but then they got the call from the nurse minutes later that she would not make it.

The comments of love and support piled up on Susan's Facebook page.

The thoughts now turn to the young man she is survived by as the whole family tries to pull together.

"Kyle doesn't really have a whole lot of clothing," said a relative. "He doesn't have a suit to wear to his mother's funeral."

Police say the other drivers who hit Susan may not have even known they did. She was wearing dark clothing, it was at night and raining but they are asking anyone with information including the drivers of those two vehicles to contact them at (586) 446-2800.

Funeral services are planned for Nov. 4, while a GoFundMe has been set up to help Kyle. CLICK HERE to donate.
