It happened around 8 p.m. at the corner of Dexter and Collingwood on the city's northwest side - that's where a woman was said to have been attacked, but she fought back.

Detroit police gathered evidence down that alley but the there is no search for the suspect. The man who allegedly raped a woman was arrested a short time after the crime.

Detroit police said the victim was able to pull out her attacker’s hair and punch him in the face causing him to bleed, giving police plenty of physical evidence in the crime.

He was caught and arrested not far from the scene. The victim, an adult woman, was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The alley itself is dark and secluded but the neighborhood, especially near the liquor store, is well lit with many of the homes decorated for the holidays.

Police say they are very confident they have the person responsible and stress there is no more danger to community as a result of this attack.
