Woman running from Warren police charged with murder after crash kills 19-year-old

- A woman allegedly under the influence of drugs has been charged with murder after crashing into and killing a 19-year-old while she fled from Warren police.

Alyssa Marie Verbeke, 28, of Otter Lake has been charged in the death of 19-year-old Daziah Crawford of Detroit. Verbeke is facing second-degree murder, first-degree fleeing a police officer, reckless driving causing death, operating with a suspended, revoked or denied license causing death, and possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams.

Police say around 6 p.m. Aug. 5, officers responded to a crash at Lappin Street and Fairport Street in Detroit. 

Woman, 19, killed in crash by suspect fleeing from police

Warren police had attempted to pull Verbeke over for speeding near Eight Mile and Fairfield. Verbeke was allegedly driving southbound on Fairport as she fled Warren police when she struck Crawford's vehicle. She and her 15-year-old brother were on their way home from church. 

Police say Verbeke fled the sceen on foot but was caught by Warren police. Crawford died at the hospital while he brother, Dalyn Crawford, suffered a concussion and a bruised hip but is OK.

It is alleged Verbeke was driving under the influence of drugs. 

Police say Verbeke's criminal history includes, fleeing and eluding police, weapons and drug charges, home invasion and prostitution.
