Woman says D-Dot bus has hit her parked cars twice

A Detroit woman is claiming a Detroit city bus hit her parked cars twice.

Now she wants the city to pay.

"They've got to slow these buses down over here," said Melisa Russell.

Russell says Detroit city buses are damaging her family's vehicles parked outside their home on Thaddeus Street.

"It's all been mirrors, all the damage has been to the mirrors," she said.

Russell says this vehicle has been hit twice by DDOT buses, adding that the second strike took place Tuesday.

"He hit it with I don't know if it was his mirror or the corner of his bus," Russell said. "Because I was inside but I did see him hit it."

Russell says a DDOT bus hit her daughter's vehicle last month.

"We saw the bus take the mirror off on this one," Russell said. "When I called city on this one, they told me they were going to send the paperwork out.  And we still haven't received anything on this one."

Russell says she has called the city several times to complain but claims she only gets the runaround.

"I called mayor's office, director's office, law department, they haven't given me paperwork to get it fixed," she said.

FOX 2 called city officials and transit police were sent out to speak to her.

City officials say if your property is damaged by a DDOT vehicle there is a correct way to file a complaint.

In a statement DDOT officials tell FOX 2:

"The city of Detroit posts on its website a form and instructions for filing a damage claim.  Once it is received an investigation will be conducted to verify the claims and determine what reimbursement the resident may be entitled to receive."

Russell says she has spent hundreds of dollars on repairs but her major concern is a damage that can't be fixed or replaced

"They have got to get D-DOT to slow this bus down over here before it kills somebody," Russell said.
