Last week Domonique Dungen walked into her apartment at Madison Estates in Detroit and was greeted with cold air.

“When I came in Friday from work there was no heat in my apartment.”

When crews came out to fix the problem, Dungen says the work could not be completed.

“When they came, the young man that is here now could not fix it. He stated that he would come back when the place opened up on Monday, so that he can get the parts and get everything needed.”

On Monday, Dungen says she went home to check on the heat repair and suddenly realized her apartment was flooded.

“As I walk to the back our feet are gushing in water. I go to my son’s room; his things are covered in water. I go in my bedroom; my things are covered in water.”

This mother says many items are ruined, including her 10 year old son's Christmas presents.

“His things that he really, really wanted. One of the things he lost was his X Box that’s in his room, which is full of water.

Dungen says she was told a busted pipe in a nearby apartment is to blame, but she says these are not the only problems she has encountered at this complex.

The mold had occurred last year 2015. They came out for the mold and they just repainted it, dug it out and I was fine. Then earlier this year I noticed it again.”

Frustrated, Dungen contacted the Fox 2 Problem Solvers for help.So we went looking for answers.

In a statement, Madison Estates told Fox 2:

“We have a brand new furnace being installed in Ms. Dungen's unit.  We have a restoration company on the way to extract water in the unit.

We are definitely here for Ms. Dungen to put her in a hotel until her apartment is put back in living standards.

There are no other issues that we are aware of and at this time I do not have authorization to speak about replacing her personal property. Hope she has renters insurance.”

Dungen says she does not have insurance.

As the tenant waits for the issues to be fixed, she says she looking for another solution.

“I don't even want to deal with this company anymore. They have turned me to the point where I just don't want to stay here.”
