DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - A woman who claims a Dearborn police officer groped her during a traffic stop took the stand Friday.
During the testimony, we learned about their prior friendship and how that could factor into the alleged incident.
"I just sat there and was like, 'Did he just touch my boob?'" the victim said in court.
That's the allegation made by a 32-year-old woman against Dearborn Police Officer Justin Smith.
The woman says the two have been friends since 2012.
She works as a waitress at a deli and Smith and other officers are frequent customers.
Smith pulled her over on May 2 and during that stop, the woman claims her buddy crossed over the friendship line.
"He says to me, 'Baby girl, you need to check your surroundings,'" the woman testified, saying she replied, "You scared me."
She went on to say, "It was an awkward silence and he just turned into the car, reached in, touched my boob and then went on about his business to the car."
Dash cam video played in court shows Smith reaching into the car during the car and then smiling as he walks back to his vehicle.
The defense raised questions about the encounter based on the victim's text to Smith an hour after the alleged incident.
The woman's boyfriend is also a Dearborn police officer.
She says she didn't tell him about the alleged incident until three weeks later. She claims it was his idea to report it.
The judge ruled that the case can move forward to trial.
Smith remains free on $10,000 bond.
