Woman's body found in car backseat in Harrison Twp., boyfriend arrested

Authorities in Harrison Township are investigating after a 48-year-old woman's body was found Friday morning.

The woman was found after a man found a silver Buick parked horizontally in his driveway and saw the body in the backseat.

"Saw the car there. A couple neighbors down the street were standing behind it. They said there is somebody in there, so we called 911," said Joe Haas, who found the woman's body.

The car was parked in the 39400 block of Cloverleaf Street, which is near S. River Road and Bridgeview Street.

"There was a large amount of blood in the front of the vehicle and in the back," Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

The sheriff says the woman had been dating a 36-year-old man, who was ushered away in handcuffs as a suspect.

His house was a crime scene on Cloverleaf in Harrison Township -- just a few doors down from where the car came to a stop.

"We believe any injuries that our victim may have received occurred inside another house there on Cloverleaf," Wickersham said.

The sheriff says that's because someone made a 911 call the night before, telling police they heard a fight and saw a woman drive away appearing to be in distress or intoxicated.

With that information they headed back to the boyfriend's house

"We found some evidence on the driveway, which we believe will tie the two of them together," he said. "We had to make forced entry. They went to a back bedroom and as soon as they kicked in the door there, he put his hands up and didn't resist."

Investigators are still trying to figure out how this woman died, as they continue to question her boyfriend.

There is also the question of how she ended up in the back seat and where she was trying to go.

Either way, the sheriff is convinced they have the suspect and expect charges to come in the next day or two.
