Woman's body pulled from Detroit River

DETROIT (WJBK) - A woman's body was pulled from the Detroit River on Tuesday afternoon.

It was discovered when a man fishing at A.B. Ford Park on Monday believed he saw a body in the river, so he went home and called police.

"The police made efforts to come out here to try to locate what he saw in the river but (were) unable to find anything," said Detroit Police Investigator Charles Weaver.

On Tuesday, police say that same person went back to the park to fish.

"(He) called police and observed a body that had washed closer to the shore, called the police and waited for police arrival," Weaver said.

Investigators say the body of a black female was pulled from the river and they are working to learn who she is.

The medical examiner was called to the scene to help investigate, but police won't say if this is a homicide investigation.

"At this point, I'm not able to reveal that but we are making efforts to determine all of those factors," Weaver said.

As police continue to investigate, they are calling on the public to provide information.

"If there is anyone who has missing family members of a black female -- I would put the range between 20 to 30 (years old) -- please contact Detroit police homicide section," Weaver said.
