Young Detroit father fatally shot on city's east side

After a young father was gunned down and left in the middle of the street on Detroit's east side, his loved ones are worried they may be next.

Two little boys, 1-week-old Ziare and his brother 3-year-old Amir Jr., have been left without a father after 23-year-old Amir Jackson was shot and killed early Sunday morning.

"(Amir Jr.) has been asking where's my daddy? Where's my daddy? I just tell him he's asleep right now," said Lashona Smith, the children's grandmother.

Jackson was killed around 1 a.m. Sunday outside of the Martin Luther King apartments on Chene near Larned on Detroit's east side.

"I'm just so in distraught. I really don't have nothing to say. I just can't believe I had to see my fiancé out there like that," said Ojan-Ne Simpson, the victim's fiancé.

Lashona Smith says she thinks she knows who's responsible for killing Jackson - a group of people she says has been targeting her family and she has the paper work to back up that claim.

On Monday detectives were back on the scene and there was a small make-shift memorial near where Jackson was killed.

Smith texted Jackson to make sure he was OK, and she never heard back, she says her worst fears were confirmed.

"When I heard a hollering I ran out of the door and it was right here on Chene," she said.
